Hoaxes
Some hoaxes are done intentionally as a gag. It is revealed after the event occurs what really took place. This can lead to some great laughs and a good time about it. There is often a great deal of time and planning that go into planning a hoax.
Others are intentionally designed to evoke a particular response from the public. They often appeal to the emotion needs of people. These types of hoaxes can result in someone taking action or deciding to join forces with a particular group of individuals. They are often formulated to get people to follow the same beliefs as another organization.
One of the lingering hoaxes in the United States has to do with the space shuttle landing on the moon. Did it really happen or was it a set up to take the pressure off of getting there before the Russians did? There are those that believe the pictures that were taken of the Apollo space shuttle crew on the moon were really taken in from a desolate area in Nevada.
Researchers have tried to prove or disprove the hoax issue of landing on the moon. However, there seems to be evidence missing that would help with the situation. The fact that rocks that were supposedly collected on the moon are missing as are the original audio tapes lead many to think that they were destroyed on purpose. This way they couldn’t be found out to be fakes. If they were real wouldn’t such items with historical importance be well preserved somewhere?
Even with this type of questioning though, less than 10% of the population believe that a hoax actually took place. There were plenty of people there that day that saw the space shuttle take off. Many people also think that they did reach the moon but that they didn’t get out and walk around it because it was too risky. That part of it was done by various types of photography. This is one hoax that we may never know the real answer to.
