Tanning Bed Bulbs
Tanning is a procedure through which the skin color can be darkened. Due to this, it is more likely to be indulged in by people with lighter colored skin. It is opted more for cosmetic reasons rather than any health related reasons. A stark white skin is not often very appealing to most people. So in order to make the skin tone a little darker, they go in for tanning. Where possible they may like to do it naturally or otherwise resort to some popular artificial methods such as using tanning beds.
One of the main parts of the tanning bed is the tanning bed bulb. In some places, the tanning bulbs are also known as tanning lamps and even tanning tubes. There are basically two types of tanning bulbs. One contains high pressure gases so they are known as high pressure tanning bulbs and the other type is low pressure tanning bulb. Often high pressure tanning bulb may simply be referred to as a bulb and the low pressure tanning bulb is known simply as a lamp. There is no definite rule as such and not everyone may adapt this rule for differentiating between the two types. Each type however uses an oxygen free environment to work.
The tanning bed bulbs give out UV radiation which is used to change the color of the skin. The bulbs used are usually fluorescent and the power rating can vary. A high pressure bulb can use anywhere from 250 to 2000 watts. The high pressure lamp uses an inert gas like argon and mercury is also used in them.
Low pressure tanning bulbs are like the common fluorescent lamps that are used in homes or offices for simple lighting. It uses small amounts of mercury with phosphorous coated on the inside of the tube. The level of UV radiation of a low pressure bulb is usually less than what the high pressure bulb produces. But it is considered as a better option for tanning than the high pressure bulbs at some occasions.
It is recommended that tanning should not be overdone because too much of a tan can prove harmful for health. Tanning bed bulbs emit ultra violet radiation which is similar to the radiation emitted by the sun as well. Too much exposure to UV radiation can prove bad for the skin and lead to a condition that resembles the feeling of sunburn which occurs on over exposure to the suns rays.
