Submarine Museum

If you have a fascination for submarines and their history, visiting a submarine museum might be the most exciting place for you to explore these amazing vessels. While you can read about them in books and on the internet, seeing the history up close is an experience you won’t forget. You will get to explore the actual submarines that were used in wars and other amazing feats throughout history.

The USS Pampanito is on display at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, California. It became a museum in 1999 after being completely restored. This vessel is from World War II. During that time she sunk six Japanese enemy ships and damaged four others. This is one of the most visited submarine museums in the world with over 110,000 visitors exploring her each year. To preserve her place in history, children are able to participate in educational weekends aboard the USS Pampanito that includes a sleep over.

In Connecticut you will find the U.S. Navy Submarine Force Museum. This is home to the USS Nautilus. This was the first nuclear powered submarine. It broke speed and distance records. This amazing submarine was in service for 25 years and over 300,000 miles before being retired in 1979. In 1986 the USS Nautilus became the newest exhibit at the museum.  This museum offers a complete assortment of submarine artifacts, documents, and pictures.

New Jersey is home of the New Jersey Naval Museum. The USS Ling submarine is featured here. The Ling is a fleet ship that patrolled the United States shores during World War II. She did an outstanding job protecting our culture from enemy invasions.

The Cavalla is on display in Galveston, Texas. She spent her years of service searching the open waters for enemy forces, especially the Japanese during World War I. The Cavalla served our Nation well until she was retired.

There are many other submarine museums throughout the United States for you to enjoy. A complete list can be found on the internet and from the United States Navy. You will not be disappointed when you attend any of these fine submarine museums. They are a great part of history as well as recognized as protectors of our freedom.
