Livestock Shows
A panel of judges carefully evaluates various aspects of each animal that has been entered. The size of the animal is evaluated along with the overall muscle structure of their body. Most of the animals have to be lead for a presentation by their owner. This allows the judges to see the behavior of the animal as well as judge their balance and overall structure.
Livestock shows take place at various locations all over the United States. Most of them are annual events that last for several days. People from all over come to enter their animals as well as to observe all of the action. In addition to the displaying of the animal entries there is generally plenty of entertainment to go with it. Most livestock shows feature rodeos and live entertainment.
Different cities vie to hose livestock shows due to the amount of revenue they generate for the area. Millions of dollars are spent on accommodations, food, and shopping experiences over the course of the livestock show. The length of the event differs by location but they generally last five to ten days.
Many children who belong to 4-H clubs take their animals to the livestock shows in the hopes of selling them for top dollar. This money is generally used for their educational purposes so those who are in 4-H for most of they childhood and youth end up being able to pay for their entire college education just with the funds from their livestock shows. Of course their parents have to invest in the animals and the cost of traveling to the events, but that is still all much less than the price of a college education.
Even if you aren’t too keen on various animals you should be thankful for these livestock shows if you enjoy eating meat. The fact that these animals are being well taken care of and fed to get the best results at the stock shows means that there is plenty of quality taking place in the meat industry.
