Early American Patriots
Considered to be one of the earliest American patriots, Philip Schuyler was an official in the army. He moved on from the battle field and into the area of politics. He held the office of Senate in the state of New York. He was very receptive to the needs of the people as well as to the needs of those serving in the military. He fought hard for patriotism but also for improving the conditions in which the military men were going into battle under.
“No Taxation Without Representation” is the famous quote of the early American Patriot James Otis. His background was in law and he was able to incorporate that into the politician arena as well. John Adams was very impressed with Otis because it seemed like every time he gave a speech to politicians or to the public they were moved to further embrace the believes of patriotism.
He also wrote articles that were published in various newspapers. Many of the principles that are found in the writings of Otis still ring true today because they appeal to the patriotism concepts and emotions that can be found in all of us.
Probably the best representation we have of early American patriots is found in the Constitution of the United States of America. Each of the men who took the time to sign this important document also played a significant role in getting all aspects in place for it to happen. Don’t think for a moment they weren’t working on these ideas for several years before they were able to implement them.
