Organic Gardening Alternatives
You can find organic produce in most grocery stores these days. If you city has a local health food store or natural foods co-op, you can certainly find a wide range of tasty organic vegetables there. Buying this food at the store might be more expensive, but if you don't have the time or the desire, it is a perfectly good alternative to organic gardening.
Another place to look for excellent organic produce is your local farmers' market. Depending on where you live, farmers' markets tend to be seasonal affairs, so you will probably not have much luck finding what you need in the dead of winter. On the flip side, in the middle of August you will find better tasting organic heirloom tomatoes than you've probably ever had in your life. An additional plus is that by purchasing your organic produce directly from the farmer, you will be supporting small organic family farms. Just make sure that the farmers' market you attend is actually selling produce grown in your area. Some farmers' markets these days are little more than an extension of the grocery store produce aisle.
Another source of organic produce that you may not be aware of is your local CSA. CSA stands for community supported agriculture and it is where you sign on with a local farm in what is almost a contract. You pay up front for a season's produce and then receive a weekly box of goodies. The good thing about this method is that you are really supporting the farmer and you are also experiencing the pleasure of eating things as they are in season.
