War Memorials
War memorials are often paid for by the government in order to give something back to those that gave so much. It is a way for their legacy to forever live on in the history and the hearts of society. In many instances you will find war memorials to be walls made out of granite. The names of the soldiers that lost their lives are listed on it. People come from all over to search for a particular name or just to take in the glory of all of it.
There are statues that are to commemorate historical events that have been significant in various wars. They may be on the actual land where the battle took place. Others are to depict an event that changed the course of history. There are many events in wars that had to be analyzed and quick decisions made. When they turned out to be the right one it was recognized as a success for all of society.
Some critics think that war memorials make war out to be something that is encouraged. This is not the role of such memorials but it is only right the efforts of these individuals are remembered. They made significant sacrifices so others wouldn’t have to and that shows a great deal of both strength and courage.
As the years move forward from wars, it is important for these memorials to be recognized by younger generations. They tend to not recognize their importance when they haven’t grown up during the events that took place. It is a good thing that many of them have never been exposed to the elements of war, yet they always need to remember the role it has played in shaping our country.
