The Magician’s Oath
All types of illusionists work hard to preserve the sanctity of the professional. It is all about being able to perform the various tricks without the audience finding out what actually took place. The image and perception they have of it will be forever altered if it is revealed. There are some types of illusions that we have seen from various artists such as sawing a woman in half and making something disappear.
There are also some acts that have original features that others in the field have not yet been able to figure out and incorporate. These rare illusions that are out there are carefully guarded. It can become the trademark for a particular person in this field and they don’t want to openly share their secrets with others. Eventually though they are often found out by others in the field. Instead of being shared publicly though they protect that information from being leaked out.
Any magician that wants to join a professional organization has to agree to abide by such an oath. This particular oath states that they will never reveal their secrets to anyone that has not taken the same oath. Most of them go as far as to agree not to reveal the secrets to anyone outside of the world of magic. They also commit to practicing every illusion until they have it perfected. This way they don’t mess up and ruin the illusion for all that are in attendance.
Even with this oath in place though, there is plenty of information circulating online about various forms of magic. Most illusionists don’t worry too much about it. Some people are more curious than others and they will search for specific details. Others love the element of surprise when they see the act and they don’t want image to be ruined for them.
