Gun Rights and Obama
Obama does support the idea that people have the freedom to bare arms. He is in no way going to attempt to remove that right when he takes over as the President of the United States in January of 2009. However, he also supports that fact that some tighter guidelines need to be put into motion regarding who can have access to them. He also wants to see some stricter guidelines that pertain to the types of guns that a person can legally own.
He also wants to see there be a limit on how many guns that an individual can buy in a given span of them. That would be waived though for retailers that buy such guns in order to resell them. The reason for the limit would be to ensure that guns aren’t being purchased legally and than sold of the black market to those that are under age or those that don’t qualify to purchase a firearm on their own.
This is in response to the many violent acts that have taken place involving youths and guns. He wants to be able to limit their access to such weapons. He also wants to have a plan of action in place for tracking down those that sold such weapons illegally. That way they can be prosecuted to the full extend of the law.
Those that want to see more lenient gun laws though aren’t happy with what Obama is proposing. He is basically covering the same aspects that were in place though with the Bush administration. What people need to realize is that Obama doesn’t get the final say on gun laws. Those groups that are for or against it lobby to congress, and they will decide what to take into consideration. Even if Obama offers a proposal they have the ability to override it.
