Goldfish Aquariums
Even though goldfish are quite small when you buy them they are going to grow. To stay happy goldfish generally require more space than other types of fish. If you start with a ten gallon goldfish aquarium you don’t want to fill it full of goldfish because it will limit the amount of individual space each one has. A good rule of thumb is to have only one goldfish per two gallons of water.
Carefully plan where you are going to place your goldfish aquarium in your home. You need to avoid placing it around heating or air conditioning vents and you want to avoid direct sunlight because it will harm the fish. They are very sensitive to sunlight. It is also a good idea to keep the goldfish aquarium away from TV’s and stereos because the vibrations from them are harmful to the goldfish.
Keep in mind that while your goldfish aquarium is not going to weigh very much it will once you fill it with water. Make sure the surface you place it on is very sturdy and can hold that much weight. Estimate that each gallon of water in the tank is going to weight eight pounds.
It is very common for individuals to purchase a goldfish aquarium and then to place fish in it that same day. To ensure the aquarium is working properly and that it has had time to cycle correctly don’t add any fish to it for a couple of days. You are much better off buying the goldfish aquarium, setting it up, and then returning for the goldfish in the days to follow. Make sure you follow the instructions for setting up the lights, filters, and heaters for your goldfish aquarium.
