Suspected Locations
The exact location of the Garden of Eden is not known. There are many theories about where it was, but there has been no actual proof, only speculation. In the book of Genesis, which is the first book of the Bible and the book that has the story of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden in it, there is mention of three separate rivers. Two of these are the Tigris and Euphrates rivers (called the Hidddekel River in Genesis). The other two rivers are the Pishon and the Gihon rivers. What is significant about those four rivers is that the Bible mentions that the Garden of Eden is where all four of those rivers led out of. That information has helped scholars make some educated guesses as to where the Garden of Eden was actually located.
It seems pretty straightforward, but there is some controversy surrounding that simplistic belief. For one thing, there is a lot of disagreement amongst the Biblical scholars as to the locations of all those rivers. Their exact location is not necessarily known. However, most scholars do believe that the Garden of Eden was located in the ancient civilization called Mesopotamia, the first known civilization. This knowledge, however, is not even a certainty. Because of the controversy over the four rivers, the common belief is that the true location of the Garden of Eden is no longer known to man. However, it could be a great educational experience to research all the theories and form your own opinions about where the Garden of Eden really is. You can start by reading the Bible and an works done by people who analyzed the book of Genesis.
