Their rules allow all three of the traditional weapons for fencing to be used including the sabre, foil, and epee.

The prep category is reserved for those who are in the first season of competition. If they place in the top three of any competition then they will be moved to the classification of novice. Once they place first in this category they will be moved to the juniors. They will move up to intermediate upon placing in a national event.
The highest level of competition for fencing in the AFL is the senior level. A person can stay at any level for any length of time for them to achieve the requirements to move up. There is no process for being reversed in the rankings.
