Energy Saving Appliances
Appliances that run all the time or ones that use the most energy are the best candidates for replacing or upgrading with an energy saving appliance. Refrigerators are appliances that are on day and night and that have a substantial energy cost to them. Energy saving refrigerators could save you a lot of money on your energy bill.
Dryers are also big users of energy, as are electric stoves and space heaters. Another appliance that uses a lot of energy is your washing machine. Consider upgrading to one of the new front-loader washers and you will save both energy and water. Front loaders use approximately 15 gallons of water per load while the older top loaders can use up to 50 gallons per load.
One simple way to save on the energy used on your appliances is to make sure you shut them off when they are not in use. Some household appliances and electronics use energy even when they are shut off. With these, it is best to unplug them. TV's, VCR's, microwaves, coffee pots, computers, and printers all use energy when they are turned off, some to run a digital clock, others to keep the device in stand-by mode. Much energy can be saved by using power strips to make unplugging these devices more streamlined.
It is worth it in terms of dollars spent and pollution to our planet to really consider what kind of energy you are using on a day-to-day basis and to take steps to minimize your energy consumption. One way to do this is to convert to using energy saving appliances.
