Extinct Animals

Extinct animals are those that are in danger of being completed wiped out. This is reason for individuals to take notice what is about to happen and to do their part to prevent it. The process of reversing the effects of extinct animals can take centuries but in many cases the damage in irreversible. The best practice is to identify the animals that are endangered and make changes now to protect them.

The reasons why a particular animal is at risk of becoming extinct are different for each one but there are some common themes. They include poaching, hunting, destruction of their habitats, pollution, and problems with reproduction within their species.

Elephants are classified as the biggest animals in the world but two main species are at risk of becoming extinct – The African and the Asian elephants. Statistics show that the number of African elephants has been cut in half over the past 25 years. The Asian elephant has seen the same reduction in the past 30 years. It is believed most elephants die at the hands of poachers who take their tusks for the ivory.

Whales are also considered to be very large animals but several species of them are in jeopardy as well. There are less than 250 right whales left in the world due to the amount of them hunted. It is now illegal to do so. The fin whale has dropped in population by half due to hunting as well.

The black rhino is a very powerful animal but it has not been able to stand up well to the many elements. It is the most aggressive rhino of the species and it can run at 40 miles per hour. Over the past 20 years the number of them has declined by 80%. It is believed many hunters find prestige and a thrill hunting black rhinos because of their aggressiveness.

The animal that seems to get the most attention for its status as an endangered animal is the panda. They have diminished due to their natural habitat being destroyed and their trouble with conceiving and carrying their young to term. There are about 200 pandas left in the world with most of them in captivity. Careful planning is done to encourage conception and the birth of healthy pandas.
