Drunk Driving Accidents
The law has also gotten stricter on drunk drivers because they want to send a message to those that do it that such behaviors won’t be tolerated. However, too many people continue to ignore the fact that they have been convicted of drunk driving and they don’t have a license. Until they are arrested for their role in a drunk driving accident they don’t stop engaging in the behaviors.
The number of people that have had their lives forever changed due to drunk drivers is unbelievable. Their stories are heartbreaking when you think that most of these accidents could have been prevented if those under the influence of alcohol weren’t driving. Even the lives of the families of the offenders have been changed. They now have fathers, children, and spouses behind bars due to their poor choice of actions.
If you are on the road with a possible drunk driver, you really need to pay attention. They can be out there any time of day or night. Do not attempt to pass them or follow too closely behind them. Try to get a license plate number and a description of the vehicle. If you have a cell phone use it to call law enforcement. You can also stop at the nearest convenient store if you need to. Having a good location such as a mile marker is helpful too. It will help get the drunk driver pulled over much faster.
Drunk driving is a simply encouraging an accident to happen. Your reaction times are delayed and your perceptions are off. You may feel relaxed and like you are in control but you aren’t. Sadly, it is often the innocent passengers in the vehicle with the drunk driver, on the sidewalks, or in other vehicles on the road that end up injured or dead. As a result, laws are in place to discourage people from drunk driving. If you are involved in an accident though and you are drunk you should expect to spend some time in jail or even prison for your actions.
