Domestic Violence Prevention

Domestic violence isn’t something that has to happen in our society. There are often many warning signs leading up to it. People tend to ignore those signs though as they don’t want to accept them. Educating people from an early age to let them know it is wrong is a good place to start.

Children that grow up in such an environment may not realize it isn’t normal. Yet if they hear at school or other venues that domestic violence isn’t acceptable it can change their mentality on the subject. This is a great method that can stop the cycle of domestic violence instead of allowing it to continue with future generations.

If you think someone has been the victim of domestic violence, ask them. Don’t fall for their stories that they walked into the door or that they fell down. Don’t be accusing when you talk to them. Make sure they know you are there for them and willing to help any time. They may not take you up on it initially but they may turn to you later on.

Too many people don’t want to get involved when it comes to domestic violence. If you hear what may be such incidents you need to call the police. Don’t put yourself into the line of risk but do all you can to get them the help they need. Donate your time and give money if you can to efforts that promote domestic violence as well.

Parents need to pay close attention to the relationships that their children have. A teenager may already be the victim of such abuse. Look for signs that they are avoiding their friends and becoming isolated. They may not be engaging in activities they once enjoyed so they don’t enrage their abuser.

Laws also need to get tougher on domestic violence issues. These way perpetrators will be less likely to repeat their offenses. They need to be held accountable for what they have done. They need to attend counseling and anger management classes. This way they can learn other ways to voice their needs and to let go of their need for complete control of others.
