Coal Stoves

Many older homes feature coal stoves as a way to offer heat for it. You will find very few new homes built with coal stoves unless the buyer requests for one to be installed. Many people like the fact that they are easy to maintain and the cost of coal is much less than other heating sources. Yet others don’t want to mess with having to keep coal on hand in order to operate it.

In recent years though, coal stoves have increased in popularity again. There are many reasons for this. First, the emissions standards for them is more lax in many areas than for wood stoves. It is also much easier to haul in some coal than to have to cut wood and store it. With the cost of natural gas climbing to all time highs, many home owners need to continue find a safe alternative. Those who are on a tight budget often find investing in a coal stove to be a very worthwhile investment.

There are many different brands of coal stoves to select from so you will be able to find one that fits your budget and matches the décor in your home. Some of them are very basic while others feature gold trim around the door opening with a glass front. They are also available in various sizes. You will need to select the size of coal stove that fits the room you have available and to heat your entire home.

One disadvantage to having a coal stove is that they are often hard to start a fire in. Each type of coal stove offers specific instructions on how to get it lit and how to properly operate it. Make sure you pay close attention to this information. You will have an easier time getting the fire started if you add small pieces of paper. Many people find covering them with Matchlight fluid helps. Once you have a fire going add a small amount of coal to the stove.

When they are used correctly, coal stoves offer a great alternative for heating your home. They are cost effective and offer plenty of heat. It will take you some time to get used to the process for lighting your coal stove. However, you will quickly master the process and be happy to know you don’t have a high bill coming your way each month in order to remain cozy in your home.
