Child Care Rebate
Child care is no easy task whether you are a parent or a child care provider. There is just so much that you need to consider when you have a child or children to take care of and finance and expenses are just some of the important things that play a huge role in child rearing. Taxes are also a part of everybody’s life and maintaining financial records and filing your returns on time is no easy task either. So how are child care and taxes related? When we talk of child care rebate, there are two aspects to it. One is from the parent’s point of view and the other from the point of view of running a child care business. Let us see how child care tax rebate works for both parties:
Child care rebate for parents – Parents are eligible for a rebate in their taxes when they have adequate documentation to substantiate their claim that they have been responsible for providing child care for a child for a particular year or the subsequent ones thereof. Your day care bills can be taken into account here. Some claim that you can even include the expenses incurred if your child has attended summer camps when you have been busy working. The age of the child is of course defined and you are able to claim a rebate if your child is less than 13 years old and you have retained an individual or a service to provide child care since you are not in a position to do that yourself.
Child care rebate for child care service providers – If you are a day care service provider then you are eligible for a number of tax deductions. Of course you need to have a license in place to be eligible. If you are running a day care in your house, you can also avail a tax rebate on this aspect depending on how many hours you run the day care and the amount of space that you use in your house. Anything that you purchase in the process of providing day care, such as consumables, food, laundry or even toilet paper can be accounted for in your taxes.
Child care is expensive business no doubt both for parents and for service providers but there are options available that can help you save enough and child care need not become such a taxing experience after all.
