There are more than 250 species of beef cattle, and the type that it comes from often plays a role in the cost of it. The cut of meat that you buy from the cattle is also something that influences the cost. When the supply of beef cattle is high then the cost of such meats drops significantly. When there are fewer beef cattle due to problems in the industry though people often have to pay a premium price for it.
Controls are often in place to help protect beef cattle from various diseases and ailments that could render them unfit for human consumption. Some ranchers raise only enough beef cattle for their own use. They have them butchered and then freeze the meat until they are ready to use it. Others raise hundreds or thousands of beef cattle on acres of land.
With the amount of beef that humans consume on a yearly basis, the beef cattle industry is one that is often very profitable for people. With the right processes in place, a successful rancher can breed enough beef cattle to keep a steady supply of them in place. It does cost money to raise these beef cattle though and that price is passed on to the consumers when they purchase the meat.
There are plenty of animal rights groups that refuse to eat beef that comes from cattle. They think it is inhumane the way that the animals are raised and then slaughtered. Generally, this is done with a type of nail gun in a slaughter house. The cattle are then hung on racks and put through the processing units of the plant.
In order to ensure the meat coming from these cattle is good for human consumption, sanitary requirements are in place. There are also health inspectors that have to take samples from the various cattle to ensure the high standards are being met.
