Booster Car Seats
Many booster car seats are designed to grow with your child. They have height adjusters to support the head as your child gets taller. Many of them offer a harness to secure your child. Look for one with a harness that your toddler can't easily undo themselves. Later, when your child is bigger, you can replace the harness with a basic vehicle lap belt. Make sure you look into safety ratings on booster car seats before you make a purchase.
Many booster car seats offer much more than just safety for your child. They also offer great accessories to make traveling more comfortable for them. Since many young children tend to sleep while in the car, it makes sense to either get one with a pillow or reinforced sides to help given them a place to lean their head while resting. Some booster car seats offer a reclining position to allow them to lean back to rest. Other common accessories include retractable cup holders and a washable car seat cover. Very elite models even offer a built in radio for your child to listen to.
Booster seats provide your child with the safety needed while they transition from a toddler to being able to use an adult seat belt. In many states, it is required to keep a child in a booster car seat until they are six years of age or weigh 60 pounds. Older children who are of school age may be upset about still riding in a car seat. There are many booster car seats to choose from for older children that don't resemble car seats and they elevate the child so that they can see out the window.
