Notable Butlers in Fiction
Batman is a story that has spanned many generations, both in comic books and movies. Bruce Wayne is the name of Batman and he was raised by the family butler, Alfred after his parent’s were murdered when Wayne was six years old. In this particular story line, the butler is definitely more than a mere servant. He works to help Batman fight crime and he helps him to identify his true self as Bruce Wayne.
Every kid dreams of being rich, and that is why the comics and cartoons of Richie Rich have been so popular. The family butler was named Cadbury and he was vital to keeping Richie balanced. He wanted the young boy to have fun but to also realize that there was much more to the world than just money. He helped the boy to have some common experiences that he otherwise wouldn’t have had. The moral of the story with the role of this butler was to let everyone know that money doesn’t buy you happiness.
Will Smith is well known for his role in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This was a sit com that definitely became a fast hit. Smith played Will, a young man sent to live with his rich uncle and family to give him more opportunities. The family has a butler named Jeffrey that helps keep the family in balance. There is funny of laugher to be found in this lighthearted comedy.
Butlers are real and in some households a vital part of their overall structure. For most of us though, they only exposure we have had with butlers is through such fictional characters that are found in our books, comics, and the big screen. You may not have given them much notice before but hopefully you will focus more on their role when you see them.
