Beer

If you will be hosting a large party, you may want to consider having a keg or two of beer readily available. This is a round cylinder that is filled up with your favorite type of beer. A horse keg is the largest size and it holds 15 ½ gallons of beer. If you only need about 10 gallons of beer you should go with a pony keg. The beer is already in the cylinder so all you have to do is go to the liquor store and buy one.

You will have to pay a deposit for the container though. This is due to the fact that may people don’t return them as they should. Once you return it in the same condition as it was given to you, that deposit will be given back. Most beer kegs have a serial number on them that has to be matched up at the time of the return as well.

With a keg of beer, there is a pump at the top of it known as the tap. This needs to be pumped in order to get the beer flowing from the dispenser. You will be able to fill up cups of it very rapidly to serve your guests. Many hosts find it is less expensive to offer beer this way. They also don’t have all the glass from beer bottles to deal with either for the clean up process.

You do have to keep the keg of beer cold though if you want to be able to keep your guests happy. One way to do this is to place the keg in a small swimming pool full of ice. Some people remove the shelves from the refrigerator and place it in there as well. If you have a porch and it is cold out, you can leave it there so it will stay cold on its own.

Make sure you have a couple of people that can help you carry the kegs of beer as well. They are quite heavy when they are full of the beer. The cylinders are bulky too so it is hard to get your hands around them. You want to avoid shaking up the beer inside of the keg as much as possible.
