Baroque Instruments

There were many instruments used for baroque music in the 1600’s and 1700’s. The most memorable is the keyboard as this was its claim to fame. It was designed specifically for use with this type of music. As it was taken over by classical music, the keyboard remained a very focal point of the sounds delivered and offered by artists. In addition to the keyboard, other groups of baroque instruments include strings, woodwinds, and brass.

The first keyboards weren’t what we image today when we are creating music. Instead they were stringed instruments with keys you could push to make the sounds. Today many people refer to them as a harpsichord. In baroque music, this was the instrument often used to offer harmony to the overall collaboration. As time went by, the harpsichords started to look like miniature versions of the pianos we have today.

There are plenty of string instruments that fall into the area of baroque music as well. The violin and the harp are the two that were most commonly used. Each of them offers a very distinct yet sophisticated sound to the music. The most popular of the woodwind instruments is the flute. Early types of baroque music though have the influence of the recorder.

The horns have the value of both the trumpet and the trombone. Both offer a deeper sound to the baroque music period. It is believed this type of use of them in baroque music greatly influenced what is known as the blues too.

There are plenty of instruments that were part of the baroque music movement. They were all designed in order to allow the musical genre of that time to move forward. These instruments are all a significant part of the music we all enjoy today. You should take some time to listen to some of this earlier music though. This way you may develop a deeper appreciation of each of these instruments.

You can also take a look at the early pictures of them too. We tend to picture things how we seem them today. Yet each one of these instruments has gone through changes and modifications over the past several hundred years. This is so people can get the most use and the best sounds out of them.
