Appeals Procedures
The request for an appeal must be received within a specific period of time. Should you not like the decision you get from something, immediately find out about the appeals procedures. Don't wait as it may require you to submit a request for the appeal within 10 days. This isn't much time for you to gather the information and write up what you need.
If you are being represented by a lawyer, they will be able to file the appeal for you. They will likely be very familiar with the appeals procedures for your type of case. You should be prepared though as most of the time it takes a very long waiting period for the appeal to be reviewed.
Depending on the circumstances, you may get notification by mail that your appeal request has been reviewed. You may have to be part of a phone or personal interview process. It may be formal or very informal depending on what is taking place. Your attorney can assist you though with learning about what you can expect to take place.
Some people simply give up on their case due to the length of time it takes for an appeal. However, if you are attempting to get disability funding or to get out of jail, it is worth it to fight until all of your appeal rights have been exhausted. You can't change the outcome of such instances if you don't take the initiative to stand up for yourself.
If you are involved in any such matter, it is important to have all the information you can gather about the appeals process and procedures. The more educated are about it, the better decisions you can make along the way. It can be complicated too so make sure you have a wonderful attorney on your side.
