If you have a type of bacteria present in your body it will lead to an infection. Generally, a doctor will have to prescribe a type of antibiotic to stop the progression of it. The bacteria can stay in your body for a very long time so make sure you take all of the medication you are given. If you are told to take it for ten or fourteen days do so even if you are feeling much better before that time frame expires.

A doctor will be very hesitant to continually prescribe antibiotics for someone though. This is because a person’s body develops a resistant to them. That means they may not be as effective the next time around. Some people don’t respond well to various types of antibiotics though. They may have to try several before an effective course of treatment is found for them.

There are some side effects that people may experience when they are taking prescription antibiotics. They may be more severe for some people than for others. They tend to get better after the first couple of days of the treatment though. Some of those side effects include stomach ache, diarrhea, hives, itching, and patches of white bumps on your tongue.

Generally, the type of antibiotic that is prescribed depends on what the doctor believes the source of the bacteria is. If you know that a particular type of antibiotic will cause some severe side effects for you, ask your doctor to prescribe something else that will also be effective for you.

It is important to watch for signs that you may be allergic to a specific type of antibiotic though. If you find it difficult to breath, your face swells up, or you get hives that are tender to the touch you need to stop using the antibiotic. Seek medical attention immediately. Make sure this information is documented in your medical chart for future reference.

It can be confusing when you attempt to buy prescription antibiotics though. This is because they all have their proper name as well as a generic name. They work the same but the generic brands are less expensive. Many people will insurance want the name brand as they will have the same co-pay for it. Those that are paying out of pocket often go with the generic brand so that they can save money.
