Animal Rights Groups
The beliefs of various animal rights groups significantly vary. Some simply want to make sure animals are treated with respect and kindness. They may also fight against animals being used for their furs. Other animal rights groups go a step further as they firmly believe animals should not be used for meat either.
A very controversial area of animal use is in the laboratories. Many animal rights groups don’t see that it is fair to use them to experiment with drugs and chemicals to see how they react. Yet scientists believe this is a very important part of being able to offer successful medications to treat illnesses. They hope to one day find a cure for cancer due to the results of the experiments they have conducted on animals.
Animal rights groups engage in various tactics in order to get people to take a stand against cruelty to animals. Rodeo events are a very controversial issue for various animal rights groups. They believe the animals are in danger and should not be used for such sports. Cheyenne Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyoming is considered to be one of the largest annual rodeos in the United States.
This year they were asking the public to boycott concerts that took place after such rodeo events in order to take a stand against such animal cruelty. They felt if they were able to affect the money this rodeo makes they would have to make significant changes. Big name bands including Bon Jovi and Def Leppard were scheduled to perform. However, these animal rights groups weren’t successful in this tactic as such shows sold out quickly.
