Hot Melt Adhesives

Hot melt adhesives are quite popular because they don’t contain any types of solvents. This makes they same for people to use as well as a better choice for the environment. These types of adhesives are solid initially and then melted either with a glue gun or other type of tool to administer the adhesive. As it begins to cool a very solid bond between the materials is created.

Hot melt adhesives work very well for crafts as they bond to both fabrics and paper. Many industries use hot melt adhesives to secure binding in books and to close cardboard cartoons before they ship them from the warehouse. For most types of packaging that businesses engage in, hot melt adhesives are their first choice. The work very well and they are inexpensive to purchase.

These types of hot melt adhesives are commonly used to secure items in place for construction and do it yourself home improvement projects. Countertops, tiles, and laminates are all often secured in place with the use of hot melt adhesives. One problem with them though is that they can lose their strength when they are exposed to high temperatures. This is because it can cause the adhesive to become liquid again and the materials can shift.

However, new advances in the types of ingredients used in hot melt adhesives are making them more resistant to heat. They are known as PUR for polyurethane reactive. This new innovation has allowed hot melt adhesives to replace other types of securing devices including staples, nails, and screws. They are also faster to apply and give the overall look of the project a nice finish than those other types of fasteners.

This has also lead to various manufacturers taking a closer look at using hot melt adhesives in their factories. The fact that doing so can save them work hours and thousands of dollars annually for supplies is definitely worth looking into.

The biggest expense for them is the cost of the equipment required to successfully administer the hot melt adhesives. Yet once they pay for this initial start up cost, they will soon be benefiting from it. Hot melt adhesive equipment will pay for itself in a year or two depending on the type of business it will be used for.
